Council consultation on park cycling management

The Council will shortly commence a consultation on a proposal for the management of cycling/walking in the park.

At the FoRP AGM there was concern that just splitting the path might lead to cyclists going faster and dogs and toddlers not observing the split. However the blind spot by the toilet block needed attention.

In discussion with the Council the idea of a 3-month trial to split cyclists and walkers only around the central area was suggested, with cyclists “give way” signs on either side of the blindspot.

Hi

Murrayfield Wanderers Rugby Club would like to invite Friends of Roseburn Park and all park users to an open social event on Saturday 13th August.

It is part of our attempt to involve all sections of the club and also the community that surrounds us.

Games and outside activities will be available on the back pitches at Murrayfield. Bar and catering will be available in our clubhouse. Just enter via the main gate on Roseburn Street, and follow the road adjacent to the railway, down to the clubhouse and pitches.
We hope that you can extend this invitation to all FORP members via your website and Facebook site.

The timings for the day;
11am – 12.30pm – Kids coaching session, this will be lead by the senior players of the club, on the artificial pitch. There will also be an inflatable set up for afterwards.

2pm – U’18s vs Ardrossan Under 18s on the artificial pitch.
2pm- MWFC Men vs Ardrossan on a grass pitch.

The opportunity will be there for anyone who would like to purchase some new club kit for the season.

Also joining us on the day will be the Fierce Cheerleaders and a Fijian dance group. Both will put on fantastic performances, so don’t miss out!!

There will be food in the clubhouse made by our fantastic caterers along with a bake sale and BBQ, weather permitting.
A raffle will be drawn in the clubhouse, after all the games have been completed. Please stick around to see if you can win a prize!

Murrayfield Wanderers developments: 23 June, 7pm

We are organising a special meeting for Friends of Roseburn Park members and other park users, on 23 June at 7pm, to hear about a major park development.

Murrayfield Wanderers Rugby Club are leaving the SRU ground as their current lease has not been renewed by the SRU. They are seeking a new base, pavilion / changing rooms and pitches. Their first choice is to develop Roseburn Park.

If you would like to hear their initial ideas come along to the Riversdale Suite, the upstairs function room at Murrayfield Ice Rink on Thursday 23 June at 7pm.

Results of consultation on park vision

You can now find the survey results here. Thanks to everyone who took park or came to the drop-in session. We will present an amended plan at the Murrayfield Community Council meeting on Tuesday 19th April at 730pm, Murrayfield Parish Church Centre. It is open to the public, so please attend if you are interested (www.murrayfieldcc.org.uk).

However in order to give full justice to the many views we received we will need to revise the plans further. You can still join in the discussion at many future points, and at any time right here or by visiting our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/roseburnpark/

The next presentation we are scheduled to make will be to the City of Edinburgh Council West Edinburgh Neighbourhood Partnership. That meeting will take place on Thursday May 12th and at that point we hope to secure the Council’s in-principle support.

Thereafter we will need to secure Planning Committee approval. To do this we will need a landscape architect to produce a very detailed plan, which of course will be further refined in the light of the Planning Officer’s views. You will again have the chance to comment when the planning application goes live on-line. The Planning Committee meetings are open to the public.

It is likely to take at least six months, until November of this year, before approval is granted. There are 15 Councillors on the Committee, including one of our Ward Councillors, Cllr Jeremy Balfour, so you can be sure the vision will have close scrutiny.

It will only be once approval has been given that we will be able to start fundraising for the many parts of the vision- a process which is likely to take several years.

Therefore you can see that this vision involves a long and complicated journey to secure and we most definitely require the support of the community if we are to have any success.
